East Cooper Regional Medical Center offers a number of classes for parents-to-be. Our classes are designed to help prepare you for childbirth and learn to care for your newborn. We even offer classes that help prepare brothers and sisters for the newest member of the family. There is a fee associated with some of these classes.
Our class offerings include:
Special Delivery Class: The prepared childbirth class is for patients who are at least 30 weeks gestation. Each course consists of three classes and includes a maternity tour.
Special Delivery Express/Refresher: This class assists moms and their birth companions with childbirth preparation by providing education and support. The class is taught in one session and should be taken after 30 weeks.
Breastfeeding: This is a three-hour class for expectant mothers a certified lactation consultant from Women’s Services teaches breastfeeding techniques.
Sibling Prep: This is a one-hour class for children whose parents are expecting another baby. It is designed to help prepare children while mom is in the hospital. A tour of Women’s Services is included.
Infant CPR: Class teaches CPR techniques to be used for infants up to one year of age.
Newborn Class: Covers what to expect while you are in the hospital, baby care basics and how to handle problems with the baby.
Maternity Tour: This is an hour-long tour of the hospital including the Women’s Services unit. It is for expectant parents and provides information about the hospital and what you can expect while having a baby at East Cooper Regional Medical Center. This tour is for adults only.
