Childbirth Classes

Because having a baby is a family affair, East Cooper Regional Medical Center has classes for everyone in the family. Entertaining and educational problems are offered to help mom and dad learn proper newborn care and to prepare brothers and sisters for the newest member of the family.

  • Special Delivery Classes: The prepared childbirth class is for patients 30 weeks gestation or greater. Each course consists of three classes and includes a maternity tour.
  • Special Delivery Express/Refresher: This class assists moms and their birth companions with childbirth preparation by providing education and support. Class is taught in one session and should be taken after 30 weeks.
  • Breastfeeding: This is a three-hour class for expectant mothers. An IBCLC Certified Lactation Consultant from Women's Services teaches techniques of breastfeeding.
  • Sibling Prep: This is a one-hour class for children whose parents are expecting another baby. It is designed to help prepare children while mom is in the hospital. A tour of Women's Services is included.
  • Infant CPR: Class teaches CPR techniques to be used for infants up to one year of age.
  • Newborn Class: Covers what to expect while you are in the hospital, baby care basics and how to handle problems with the baby.
  • Maternity Tour: This is an hour-long tour of the hospital including Women's Services unit. It is for expectant parents and provides information about the hospital and what you can expect while having a baby at East Cooper Regional Medical Center. This tour is for adults only.
