Maternity Services

Here's a list of some of our services that will help you prepare for your new addition

  • Advanced Fetal Monitoring: These monitors closely record uterine and fetal heart activity for early detection of complications.
  • Pre-Delivery Observation: Specialists can determine if a patient is in labor and perform other procedures pre-delivery.
  • Ante-partum Testing: A simple, outpatient procedure to determine the condition of your unborn baby.
  • Special Delivery Options: Our staff is skilled in a variety of special delivery methods to address the delivery options of our patients.
  • Rooming In: Patients are encouraged to have their newborns with them.
  • Flexible Visitation Policy: Our family oriented philosophy offers special visiting privileges when possible for siblings and grandparents.
  • Private Postpartum Rooms: Mom and baby will be cared for in a private room by nurses with special training for postpartum moms and babies.
  • Level II Neonatal Nursery: Our nursery is equipped and staffed especially for newborns who need special care and allows mothers to stay close by.
  • IBCLC Certified Lactation Consultants: Our lactation nurse visits each mother and baby after delivery to answer questions and assist with the learning of newborn care and breastfeeding. Our lactation nurse also will call the new mother at home for a follow up to make sure everything is going well.
  • Gift Shop: Specialty gift items for the newborn are available in the volunteer's gift shop located in the main lobby.

Childbirth Classes

Because having a baby is a family affair, East Cooper Regional Medical Center has classes for everyone in the family. Entertaining and educational problems are offered to help mom and dad learn proper newborn care and to prepare brothers and sisters for the newest member of the family.

  • Special Delivery Class: a three-session program for expectant parents taught by certified prepared childbirth educators. Includes stages of labor, medication options, the birth process, breathing and relaxation, post-partum and infant care. Includes a tour of Women’s Services.
  • Super Saturday Class: class includes anatomy and physiology of pregnancy, coping skills, stages of labor, c-sections, medications and anesthesia. Includes lunch and a tour of Women’s Services.
  • Breastfeeding Class: Two-hour class for expectant mothers. A certified Lactation Consultant teaches the proper techniques of breastfeeding.
  • Newborn Class: Class covers what to expect while in the hospital, baby care basics and how to handle problems with baby.
  • Maternity Tour: Hour-long tour of the hospital including the Women’s Services and information on what to expect while having a baby at East Cooper Regional Medical Center.
  • Infant CPR: Class teaches CPR techniques to be used for infants up to one year of age.
  • Sibling Class: For children expecting a new brother or sister. One-hour class includes a visit to the nursery, diaper changing techniques, bottle-feeding and how to hold a baby. Children are asked to bring a baby doll or stuffed animal with them.
