Mt. Pleasant, S.C. - East Cooper Regional Medical Center, through the Tenet Healthcare Foundation, has awarded a $25,000 grant to Hospice of Charleston.

The grant supports the first Hospice Center in the Lowcountry, which opened to patients in June 2006.  The check was presented to Executive Director, Kit Cosgrove, in December.

“I would like to thank East Cooper Regional Medical Center and the Tenet Healthcare Foundation for this very thoughtful and needed donation,” said Cosgrove.  “We appreciate their support of our hospice center project.”

Located on Wando Park Boulevard in Mt. Pleasant, the Hospice Center augments the services of Hospice of Charleston, which has served the tricounties with home care hospice for over 26 years.    The Hospice Center provides specialized hospice care to individuals nearing the end of life.  Patients may be admitted to control distressing symptoms that cannot adequately be managed at home or for respite care  which provides relief to the patient’s primary caregiver.  More information on hospice care can be found at their web site, www.hospiceofcharleston.org.

“We’ve had a strong relationship with hospice for years,” said Andrea Wozniak, East Cooper Regional Medical Center’s CEO.  “The Hospice Center is an important resource for our community and it is a privilege for us to play a role.”

Endowed by Tenet, the Tenet Healthcare Foundation, along with East Cooper Regional Medical Center, directs grants to help healthcare needs in the communities served by facilities owned by Tenet hospitals. The Foundation also provides grants to various educational, social services, civic and humanities–supporting organizations nationwide.
