Hospital Employees Give Back

Mt. Pleasant, S.C. (Feb. 25, 2009) – East Cooper Regional Medical Center employees turned a traditional annual celebration into needed gifts for three area organizations today.  East Cooper Community Outreach, Habitat for Humanity and Wando High all benefitted from the generosity of the East Cooper Regional Medical Center employees.

Since the inception of East Cooper Regional Medical Center in the 1980s, the hospital has observed its anniversary in late January with a celebration for its employees.  This year, in light of the difficult economic times, hospital employees recognized a need to put their own celebrations on hold and provide a helping hand to organizations who are feeling the impact of the economy and other misfortunes.

It means a lot to me because last year East Cooper Habitat for Humanity built a new home for me and my daughters,” says Latoya Palmer, an employee at East Cooper Regional Medical Center who works in the admitting department.  “I’m thrilled to be part of an organization that gives back.”

Habitat for Humanity received a check for $1,000, presented by Latoya Palmer, and Jennifer Evans, a speech therapist at East Cooper Regional, presented East Cooper Community Outreach with $3,000.  Wando High School’s request for a donation of ten TI-84 Plus calculators for their students’ use was presented by Allyson Malick, a wound care specialist at East Cooper Regional.

“In the few short months I have been at East Cooper Regional Medical Center, I have been extremely proud of the commitment our employees show to our community every day,” states CEO, Janie Jaberg.  “There is a deep sense of loyalty that flows far beyond our hospital walls.”
