Originally from Knoxville, Dr. Edwards graduated from University of Tennessee Center for the Health Sciences at Memphis in 1979.
At the same institution, he completed a five-year residency in General Surgery and a residency in Cardiothoracic Surgery. After completing this residency in 1986, he joined his present practice, South Carolina Cardiovascular Associates in Charleston. He is board-certified in general surgery and thoracic surgery.
Dr. Edwards has served as Chairman of the Department of Surgery and Chief of Staff of the Trident Health System and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, member of the Southeastern Thoracic Society and member of the American Medical Association.
In his practice of Thoracic and Vascular Surgery, Dr. Edwards works to offer innovative and resourceful approaches to surgical disease. He champions “beating heart surgery,” videoscopic thoracic surgery and endovascular surgery.
His extracurricular activities include kayaking, swimming, hiking and golf. He lives with his family on a farm on Johns Island, South Carolina.
