In the 1980s, Mount Pleasant was a small community needing quality healthcare closer to home. East Cooper Medical Center responded, making the healthcare of this community our priority.

Our 25-year commitment holds strong, which is why we are building a new hospital--expanded to continue to meet the needs of East Cooper. While we are proud of our beautiful new facility, we are even more proud of our true beauty that lies within--the compassionate caring of our doctors, nurses and team of healthcare professionals.

New Hospital Features

Top-notch facilities, nationally recognized medical expertise, uncompromising comfort and convenience. 

• More than twice the size of our current facility, the new hospital offers 130 private patient rooms and 10 neontal beds,
• Our environmentally friendly, technology rich hospital was designed to exceed the latest South Carolina hurricane and earthquake building code requirements.
• Our Pre-Admission Testing area, conveniently located adjacent to the main lobby with private consultation rooms, offers pre-admission testing, infusion services, wound care and phlebotomy services.
• Just outside our ER doors, a conveniently located helicopter landing pad provides easy access to our expanded Level III Trauma Certified Emergency Department and Advanced Primary Stroke Center.
• Eight expansive operating rooms, with state-of-the-art sterilization equipment and the latest high-definition (HD) technology for minimally invasive, laparoscopic surgeries, include their own LiveData System to provide the clearest picture of a patient’s status. This creates an even more "patient-safe" environment.
• Open-air patio, connected to the East Cooper Cafe, offers a relaxing option for enjoying beautiful weather while treating yourself to a fresh, delicious meal created by our executive chef at our new grilling station. Healthy entrées served daily.
• Sixteen spacious, beautifully appointed Labor and Delivery rooms offer the latest in technology, coupled with many comforts of home. An additional 28 private postpartum rooms offer parents and baby a comfortable place to recover. Families can be assured of their baby’s safety with our new infant security monitoring system.
• A 10-bed Level II Neonatal Unit cares for premature newborns or those with special needs.  A special "family" room offers a place for parents to stay while their baby is cared for.
• The introduction of Interventional Radiology to the new East Cooper, gives us the ability to treat vascular disease, uterine fibroid embolization, varicose veins, angiograms and more.
• In-house MRI and two CT rooms, featuring a 64-slice and a 16-slice CT, offers the highest level of CT technology east of the Cooper.
• A devoted fully-digital breast center has a separate, private entrance, designated parking and complete women’s services. Experienced specialists deliver care and a comfortable experience.
• Advanced Pneumatic Tubing System in 13 areas of the hospital is designed to deliver specimens, supplies and pharmaceuticals to clinical areas quickly to improve turn-around time.
• Donated by our Volunteer Organization, the Memory Garden, on the left side of the hospital, gives visitors a place to reflect.
• Free, ample, convenient parking with 24-hour security.
• For patients who want to share time with a loving, affectionate canine, we offer Pet Therapy with the help of Therapy Dogs Inc.
