Mount Pleasant, S.C. – East Cooper Medical Center and Kindred Healthcare have announced the closing on the sale of the former East Cooper Regional Medical Center site to Kindred Healthcare.
Kindred Healthcare has purchased the 125,000 square feet facility, located at the vacant address at Johnnie Dodds Boulevard and Bowman Road. In a news release last month, Kindred announced plans to relocate its existing Kindred Hospital Charleston, a downtown specialty hospital to the Mount Pleasant facility, renovating it to house 59 long term acute care beds and 35 sub acute care beds by 2012. The long-term, acute care hospital specializes in treating and rehabilitating patients with needs beyond the length of the typical acute care hospital stay.
We're excited to welcome our new neighbor, Kindred, to Mount Pleasant," said Evan Ray, Chief Operating Officer at East Cooper. "They are well-known for their high quality of care for long-term, acute hospital stays and we are looking forward to strengthening our relationship with them. We plan to work closely with Kindred, and know our patients will benefit by having the Kindred facility in Mount Pleasant."
"We look forward to moving to the Mount Pleasant area and expanding the services we can provide to more effectively meet the healthcare needs of our community," said Jennifer Sheets, Chief Executive Officer of Kindred Hospital Charleston. "At Kindred, we are committed to providing high quality, cost-effective healthcare services and providing a continuum of services that allows us to 'Continue the Care' for our patients and residents through an entire episode of treatment and recovery."
East Cooper Medical Center left the old facility in April 2010, when it opened its new, five-floor, 250,000-squre foot hospital at 2000 Hospital Drive.
