When newborns arrive early or have medical complications, they need a special place and unique care to help them grow, heal and feel loved.
That's why families depend on the team at East Cooper Medical Center's Level II Neonatal Nursery. Our spacious, state-of-the-art environment and highly trained professionals provide 24-hour, life-saving care for newborns and their families.
With the staffing of board-certified MUSC-affiliated neonatologists, the partnership between East Cooper Medical Center and MUSC is evidence of the commitment to this specialized care. Our experienced neonatologists practice ongoing collaboration with obstetricians and the pediatricians of infants in need of advanced care, and our skilled team of pediatric caregivers offers the highest level of neonatal care in Mt. Pleasant.
Focusing on late-preterm infants, at gestation of 32 to 37 weeks, our emphasis is on neurodevelopmentally-appropriate and family-centered care. Our neonatal-trained respiratory therapists assist us in offering oxygen therapy, continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), surfactant administration and short-term ventilation, as needed. Neonatal-trained physical, occupational, and speech therapists complete our skilled pediatric rehab team, offering comprehensive evaluation and management of infant feeding difficulties, especially those associated with immaturity and birth defects.
Our knowledgeable lactation consultants provide support for breastfeeding, dedicated pharmacists are available around the clock and specialized dieticians offer their guidance regarding decisions for the nutritional needs of our premature babies.
Because parents play such an important role in their little one’s health, our Rest Easy program enables them to stay close to their infant - even after mom has been discharged from the hospital.
Knowing you will give birth to your baby in the hospital that has delivered more babies than anywhere else east of the Cooper is important. Knowing your baby will have the care of Mt. Pleasant’s only Level II Nursery, if needed, is crucial.
Put your family in our hands. We’ve been here for you and always will be.
