Maternity Services
Here's are some of our services that will help you prepare for your new addition:
- Nurse Midwives: Nurse midwives are nurse practitioners who serve as a complement to OB/GYN care--in family planning and contraceptive management to prenatal care, including labor and delivery, to care of the menopausal woman. East Cooper Medical Center is the only hospital in Mt. Pleasant offering nurse midwife services.
- Advanced Fetal Monitoring: These monitors closely record uterine and fetal heart activity for early detection of complications.
- Pre-Delivery Observation: Specialists can determine if a patient is in labor and perform other procedures pre-delivery.
- Ante-partum Testing: A simple, outpatient procedure to determine the condition of your unborn baby.
- Special Delivery Options: Our staff is skilled in a variety of special delivery methods to address the delivery options of our patients.
- Rooming In: Patients are encouraged to have their newborns with them.
- Flexible Visitation Policy: Our family oriented philosophy offers special visiting privileges when possible for siblings and grandparents.
- Private Postpartum Rooms: Mom and baby will be cared for in a private room by nurses with special training for postpartum moms and babies.
- Level II Neonatal Nursery: Our nursery is equipped and staffed especially for newborns who need special care and allows mothers to stay close by.
- IBCLC Certified Lactation Consultants: Our lactation nurse visits each mother and baby after delivery to answer questions and assist with the learning of newborn care and breastfeeding. Our lactation nurse also will call the new mother at home for a follow up to make sure everything is going well.
- Gift Shop: Specialty gift items for the newborn are available in the volunteer's gift shop located in the main lobby.
