East Cooper Medical Center Donates to Meals on Wheels

Dec 11, 2015

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – December 11, 2015 –It’s the season of giving and a time to remember those in our community who are less fortunate. The associates of East Cooper Medical Center did just that by donating close to 100 gifts to East Cooper Meals on Wheels this week. An angel tree was set up in the hospital’s main lobby and gifts were collected over the last two weeks that included new blankets, robes, clothes and socks.

East Cooper Medical Center has been working with East Cooper Meals on Wheels since 2003. The donations from the hospital will be distributed next week before the holidays.

In addition, East Cooper Medical Center provided a Random Act of Community to Meals on Wheels on Wednesday. The hospital covered the costs for 285 meals for local residents and helped pack them to be delivered. Afterward, our associates rode along with the Meals on Wheels volunteers to meet those who received the meals. This was a rewarding and exciting opportunity for us to give back to others in the community during the holiday season.

East Cooper Meals on Wheels is a community based 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization. They deliver daily nutrition free of charge to residents of Mount Pleasant, Sullivan’s Island, Isle of Palms, Wando, Cainhoy and Daniel Island who are homebound or unable to provide their own meals.

“Many of the individuals and families that are supported by East Cooper Meals on Wheels won’t be able to enjoy some of the simple pleasures of the holidays. As an organization that has been devoted to the health and well–being of the East Cooper community for 30 years, we were fortunate to be a part of this program this week and see first-hand the wonderful work that Meals on Wheels does every day,” said Jason Alexander, CEO of East Cooper Medical Center.
