Accessibility Statement

We are committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience. To do so, we are actively working with consultants to update the website by increasing its accessibility and usability by persons who use assistive technologies such as automated tools, keyboard-only navigation, and screen readers.

We are working to have the website conform to the relevant standards of the Section 508 Web Accessibility Standards developed by the United States Access Board, as well as the World Wide Web Consortium's (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1. These standards and guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities. We believe that conformance with these standards and guidelines will help make the website more user friendly for all people.

Our efforts are ongoing. While we strive to have the website adhere to these guidelines and standards, it is not always possible to do so in all areas of the website. If, at any time, you have specific questions or concerns about the accessibility of any particular webpage, please contact so that we may be of assistance.

East Cooper Medical Center Perform First Surgical Weight Loss Procedures

May 8, 2019

East Cooper Medical Center successfully completes its first three surgical weight loss procedures.

“Launching new services here in Mount Pleasant is always rewarding as we strive to make quality healthcare more accessible to local residents,” said Patrick Downes, CEO at East Cooper Medical Center. “When it comes to obesity, carrying excess weight can put someone at a higher risk for diabetes, high blood pressure and many other health concerns. We are excited to be a part of our patients’ weight loss journey and we look forward to serving others in the coming weeks and months thanks to Dr. Morris Washington and his team.”

Each of the three procedures on Wednesday were a laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. This surgery involves removing between 60 to 80 percent of the stomach, so that what’s left looks like a tube, or a sleeve. A smaller stomach means you eat less which, along with a slower digestive process, leads to weight loss. There are two other surgical weight loss procedures offered at East Cooper Medical Center – the laparoscopic gastric bypass and the gastric band.

Each month, East Cooper Medical Center hosts three informational seminars for members of the community at no cost to attendees. Dr. Washington and our bariatric program navigator lead an in-depth conversation about what’s involved in surgical weight loss, from the costs of surgery itself to what happens afterwards.  Registration can be completed on our website,
