East Cooper Medical Center Sponsors Wando High School BandNov 29, 2018
Mount Pleasant, SC – November 29, 2018 – East Cooper Medical Center is proud to continue supporting the students who are in the Wando High School Band.
“Supporting great programs like the Wando High School Band allows East Cooper Medical Center to further impact our community beyond the walls of the hospital,” said Patrick Downes, chief executive officer of East Cooper Medical Center. “The students who participate in band are learning skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.”
“Besides learning music from some of the best directors in the country, students learn leadership by serving on the student leadership team,” explained E.C. Setser, Vice President of the Wando Band Boosters which hosts fundraisers and encourages band sponsorship. “They lead their various instrument ‘sections’ and meet with the directors at least once a week (usually more) to act as a voice between students and directors. This leadership training is invaluable to students. They also learn teamwork, hard work, dedication and time management.”
More than 260 students currently participating in band. Community partnerships and sponsorships help reduce the costs incurred to participate in various activities throughout the year. During the 2018 season, the Wando band played at home games, away games and three competitions. The students have won the South Carolina State Championship 11 times and earlier this year, they came in 6th at the Grand Nationals Competition in Indianapolis. The band is preparing to participate in the upcoming Mt. Pleasant Christmas parade.
