East Cooper Medical Center Turns 30!Mar 13, 2018
East Cooper Medical Center, the first hospital in Mount Pleasant, reached a milestone on January 5, 2016 when it celebrated the 30th anniversary of opening its doors. Over the past 30 years, East Cooper’s commitment to outstanding quality has earned nine gold seals of approval from one of the nation’s most respected health care organizations – The Joint Commission. In addition, East Cooper Medical Center has been honored with five-star patient satisfaction ratings for 10 consecutive years by Tenet Healthcare.
In January of 1986, the hospital opened as East Cooper Community Hospital, the first hospital in town. When the doors opened, Mount Pleasant was a small community of 15,000 people and now is a bustling town of more than 80,000. Like our community, the hospital continued to grow. In 2010, East Cooper welcomed a brand-new 250,000-square-foot facility with a level III trauma certified emergency department, helicopter landing pad, a dedicated women’s services center, Level II Neonatal Unit and much more.
Over the years, East Cooper Medical Center has continued to expand with the opening of a new 42,000-square-foot medical office building in 2014. The Mullis Building, located adjacent to East Cooper Medical Center, includes several physician practices with a focus on women’s services and orthopedic services, as well as outpatient physical therapy and laboratory services.
East Cooper Medical Center is also continuing a year-long initiative called Random Acts of Community. The hospital started the campaign in 2015 as a way to give back to local residents. Every few weeks the hospital will partner with a Mount Pleasant business or school to perform an act of kindness, and in December, it teamed up with Meals on Wheels to cover the cost of 285 meals for local residents.
East Cooper Medical Center, part of Tenet Healthcare, is a 130-bed acute care hospital located at 2000 Hospital Drive in Mount Pleasant. It provides a number of services including 24-hour emergency care, women’s services, diagnostic imaging and interventional services, orthopedics, sports medicine, pain care, adult and pediatric rehabilitation services, wound care services and surgical care, including nationally recognized spine surgery and breast reconstruction surgery.
