East Cooper Medical Group to Offer Urogynecological Services with the Addition of Dr. Cary Fishburne

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C., ― East Cooper Medical Group recently welcomed urogynecologist Dr. Cary Fishburne. He will practice at the newly created East Cooper Center for Pelvic Medicine.
Dr. Fishburne’s arrival marks the beginning of a new service line for East Cooper Medical Group, urogynecology. Urogynecologists diagnose and treat pelvic floor conditions such as weak bladder and pelvic organ prolapse.
In addition to performing laparoscopic and robotic surgeries to treat a variety of pelvic conditions including advanced pelvic reconstructive surgery, Dr. Fishburne’s subspecialty is managing urinary and bowel incontinence. He will be working with a physical therapist who specializes in pelvic floor disorders to provide the continuum of care to patients.
Dr. Fishburne’s goal is to support women throughout all stages of their lives by offering customized treatment to help them maximize quality of life and return to activities they love.

Board-certified in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery, Dr. Fishburne was the founding physician of Summerville Pelvic Health Specialists before joining East Cooper Medical Group. He also practiced at Novant Health Urogynecology in Charlotte and was in private practice in Huntersville, North Carolina.
Dr. Fishburne is a graduate of The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia and received his Doctor of Medicine from The University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville, Virginia. After completing his internship in Internal Medicine at the Medical Center Hospital of Vermont in Burlington, Vermont, he finished another internship and a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Dr. Fishburne completed a mini-fellowship experience in urogynecology at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
He is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American College of Surgeons.
