East Cooper Medical Center offers the da Vinci® Si Surgical System as a minimally invasive surgical procedure option for appropriate conditions. The da Vinci Surgical System allows surgeons to perform operations through a few small incisions and offers
a number of key features that include the following:
Magnified vision system that gives surgeons a highly magnified 3D-HD view inside the patient’s body
Ergonomically designed console for the surgeon to sit while operating the system
Patient-side cart where the patient is positioned during surgery
Wristed instruments that bend and rotate far greater and with more dexterity and precision than the human hand
How Does the da Vinci Surgical System Work?
The da Vinci System is powered by robotic technology. This technology allows the surgeon’s hand movements to be translated into smaller, more precise movements
of tiny instruments inside the patient’s body. Making this process less invasive and more accurate than traditional surgery.
One instrument that is used is a laparoscope—a thin tube with a tiny camera and light at the end. The camera send images to a video monitor in the operating, guiding doctors during surgery. The surgeon is in complete control of the da Vinci Surgical
System at all times.
