East Cooper Medical Center has the longest standing Level II Special Care Nursery in Mt. Pleasant, and has delivered more babies than anywhere east of (the) Cooper. We have the experience, technology and the expert care designed for our smallest patients.


  • A Level II Special Care Nursery is capable of caring for infants of 32 weeks gestation and greater
  • Level II Special Care Nursery's have a wide variety of medical staff onsite including neonatologists, neonatal nurses and respiratory therapists who are available 24 hours a day

East Cooper Medical Center offers a wide variety of in-person classes at our hospital, but if you can’t come to a childbirth class in person, we'll bring the class to you. Our online childbirth education program is the perfect alternative to in-person education and provides comprehensive information to support new mothers. Online seminars help mothers recognize signs of labor, discover helpful comfort techniques, prepare for your baby’s arrival and know what to expect after giving birth.

Specialty Services

We are dedicated to ensuring that you have a safe delivery. To make sure that happens, our hospital has invested in various resources that allow us to better care for you throughout your pregnancy.

We provide ante-partum testing so that we can monitor your baby’s condition before delivery. If you are interested in special delivery options, we can accommodate a variety of different birthing methods. Our team includes IBCLC Certified Lactation Consultants who visit every mother and baby to work with them on breastfeeding techniques.

Postpartum Support

Many mothers deal with postpartum depression or anxiety, and you shouldn’t feel embarrassed or ashamed if you need support coping with it.
